PJ BOND TO SUPPORT FRANK TURNER ON UK INSTORES AND ALBUM LAUNCH GIGS AUGUST 2015

Following a lengthy tour across Europe and the UK throughout all of June and July, PJ Bond can announce he will support Frank Turner on his short run of instores this August. PJ will also support Frank on his intimate Positive Songs For Negative People album launch gigs in London and Glasgow. Details below.

Frank spotted PJ at the Xtra Mile Recordings Summer In The City party back in July and immediately invited him on these shows. Full dates are:

06 Banquet instore, Kingston

11 Rise instore, Worcester

11 Rise instore, Bristol

12 Rough Trade, Nottingham

In May, PJ released his incredible album Where Were You?, a beautiful album covering topics that lace the modern musical lexicon — love, loss, friendship, family, and music. He has been compared to Elliott Smith, Micah P Hinson, and Wilco, while his new album reveals all the bombast and ambition of someone who has listened to a fair amount of Dylan or Springsteen, and dreamed. He's spent years travelling and playing to everyone he could, essentially homeless, while writing and recording songs and telling stories.

You can buy on CD from any of the shops above. It is also available on vinyl in four different colours — maroon, yellow, navy and mint green. The yellow and mint green versions are exclusive for the Xtra Mile Recordings shop, the latter featuring hand-painted artwork by PJ digitally printed for the sleeve. To purchase these exclusive vinyl or the album on CD and digital visit the Xtra Mile Recordings shop. All other vinyl colours are available at various participating retailers.

XTRA MILE RECORDINGS PRESENT 'SUMMER IN THE CITY' ON 8 JULY 2015 — SKINNY LISTER, WILL VARLEY, PJ BOND, AND THE RPMS // LIVE AT THE MONARCH, CAMDEN

On Wednesday 8 July, Xtra Mile Recordings are celebrating summer and the (hopefully) lovely warm weather by throwing a massive party at our home from home, The Monarch in Camden. Tickets for this fun-packed evening are £7 and available to purchase here

Also, on the same day, we are releasing the sixth installment of our annual label compilation, Xtra Mile High Club. More news on that very, very soon.

Dubbed Summer In The City — both the gig and the compilation — they'll feature acts from our roster as well as unsigned acts that we’re really excited by.

The gig will be a night of unrivaled fun, with bands, beach balls and balmy summer cocktails (and/or beer). Kicking off the night is up and coming Brighton band The RPMs, whose passion for rock 'n' roll and a knack for writing killer hooks makes them a very promising band to keep an eye on. Then, fresh from a rambling tour of mainland Europe and the UK, comes wandering singer-songwriter PJ Bond with touring partner (and XMHC Vol 5 alumnus) The Lion And The Wolf in tow. Next up will be Xtra Mile’s newest signing, Will Varley. Singer, storyteller, poet — he’s supported Frank Turner at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as Beans On Toast and The Proclaimers. Poignant, funny and utterly charming, he’s one to watch for certain.

Headlining the evening’s festivities are the twelve-legged party animal known as Skinny Lister, whose flagon of rum and infectious sing-a-longs will top off the night brilliantly. Their current album Down On Deptford Broadway is full of fantastic anthems about nights out, having a drink, love and living in London, and they’re the perfect headliners for our Summer In The City night.

8 July also sees the release of Xtra Mile High Club Vol 6: Summer In The City — a digital-only compilation that celebrates the breadth of talent across our roster, as well as a selection of unsigned acts that are rocking our boat at the moment. It includes new and recent songs from Frank Turner, Will Varley, Dan Andriano, Northcote, Esmé Patterson, Billy the Kid, Mull Historical Society and many more. The full tracklisting will be announced soon.

Competition — win a pair of tickets to Summer in the City, plus the compilation!

Now you know all about it, why not try to win two tickets to the gig and a free download of the compilation?

Using the hashtag #XMRsummer send us pictures of how you’re making your summer an XMR one, whether it's seeing our bands at festivals (or at gigs) or you’re just dressed in head-to-toe XMR merch while on a bike ride (as you do). However you’re managing to incorporate XMR into your summer fun, we wanna see. The best pictures will win this awesome prize! You and your friend/sibling/parent/cousin/lover/whomever could be partying with us all, and reliving the celebration afterwards with a huge bunch of XMR and unsigned songs with XMHC Vol 6!

Tag your pictures on social media for us to see:  @xtra_mile for Twitter and @xtramilerecordings for Instagram. Our decision is final, and we'll announce the winner at least a week before the show. Good luck!

PJ BOND NEW TRACK 'THE BETTER OPTION' EXCLUSIVE STREAM ON BROOKLYN VEGAN // TAKEN FROM SECOND ALBUM 'WHERE WERE YOU?' OUT 4 MAY 2015 - PREORDER NOW

PJ Bond unveils brand new track ‘The Better Option’ on leading US music site Brooklyn Vegan today. You can check out the premiere here.

Taken from his forthcoming second album Where Were You? - out 4 May 2015 through Xtra Mile Recordings - this is PJ at his laid-back best. Heavy reverb splashes upon PJ’s guitar and vocals, and later, a fuzzed-up guitar line enlivens the lilting feel. Melting Americana, a traveling troubadour style and a roaring 70s guitar line, it’s not only an appropriate introduction but a glimpse at the clash and blend PJ excels at.

You can pre-order the album on CD or download from Xtra Mile Recordings, download from iTunes, CD from Amazon, and download from Google Play.

PJ Bond has been compared to Elliot Smith, Micah P Hinson, and Wilco, while his new album reveals all the bombast and ambition of someone who has listened to a fair amount of Dylan or Springsteen, and dreamed.

He's spent years travelling and playing to everyone he could, essentially homeless, while recording a heap of songs including for the breakout solo release You Didn't Know I Was Alphabetical.

Talking about signing with Xtra Mile, PJ said:

“Xtra Mile is one of the rare labels where it seems that they put out music that they truly believe in, and are not so much constrained by genre that they'll question whether or not it is a 'good idea'. This approach by clearly music-loving people is what drew me most to XMR, and was supported by everyone with whom I spoke about them. Honesty, respect, heart, these are the common threads. All in all, I think I've found a lovely home.”

PJ BOND SIGNS TO XTRA MILE RECORDINGS // NEW ALBUM 'WHERE WERE YOU?' OUT 4 MAY 2015 // STREAM 'BROAD STREET'

Americana-tinged folk songwriter PJ Bond has signed to Xtra Mile Recordings and will release his new album Where Were You? on 4 May 2015. You can pre-order the album on CD and download from the following places:

Amazon

Xtra Mile Recordings

Google Play

You can also stream 'Broad Street', the first single to be taken from the album, here.

PJ Bond has been compared to Elliot Smith, Micah P Hinson, and Wilco, while his new album reveals all the bombast and ambition of someone who has listened to a fair amount of Dylan or Springsteen, and dreamed. He's spent years travelling and playing to everyone he could, essentially homeless, while recording a heap of songs, including for the breakout solo release, You Didn't Know I Was Alphabetical.

His lyrics cover topics that lace the modern musical lexicon – love, loss, friendship, family, and music. But you've also got a wink and nod to infidelity and murder on 'Everglades', while '87 Broadcast' (which revolves around his "complex relationship with music, 'making it', songs, connecting with other people”) boasts the refrain 'the radio makes you honest'.

Xtra Mile and PJ Bond were introduced by labelmate Billy the Kid, when Billy put forward 'I'm In a Bad Way' for Xtra Mile's fifth Xtra Mile High Club compilation, which included unsigned artists picked by the entire XMR roster. It was such a good choice, and fit with the label so well, that releasing the record seemed inevitable.

We couldn't agree more, and we're happy to have him.
