WILL VARLEY TOURS GERMANY IN APRIL 2018 // ON TOUR IN USA WITH SKINNY LISTER FEBRUARY & MARCH 2018

Having spent most of 2017 on the road, including dates with Frank Turner in the US and a European spring tour with Valerie June, Will Varley will return to live venues in 2018, including Germany in April, after spending the autumn in the studio working on his fifth album.

After Will's sell-out tour of Germany in winter 2016 and shows in Cologne and Hamburg in June 2017, as well as the Xtra Mile Reeperbahn Festival showcase in September, Will is eager to return to the warm welcome of Germany’s thriving music venues. He may have some surprises too, among a heap of new songs. He will have extensively limbered up during February and March in North America with hyperactive labelmates Skinny Lister too, so you’re in for some fine-tuned and memorable shows.

Tickets for these shows are available on Wednesday 1 November 2017 12pm UK time / 1pm Germany time from www.willvarley.com.

Will practically lives on the road, and 2017 has been perhaps even more busy than 2016, when he toured with the Proclaimers and supported Billy Bragg as well as performing on the Flogging Molly Salty Dog cruise. After starting this year on the road with Frank Turner in the US, Will embarked on a headline tour of his own in Germany before the European tour with Valerie June, including his first ever France dates. He also performed the Xtra Mile night of Frank Turner's Lost Evenings festival at Camden's legendary Roundhouse in May. He spent the rest of spring and the beginning of summer in the US supporting Lincoln Durham before hitting the festival circuit, wowing crowds at 2000trees, and Greenfield.

With so many shows under his belt, the wait until 2018 will be worth it.  Often politically charged and always emotionally loaded, Varley’s live shows have been drawing crowds across the world, and his headline tours have seen him selling out venues from Berlin to New York and everywhere in between. It’s been a meteoric rise for the 29-year-old who began self-releasing albums and travelling England on foot only six years ago. In 2015 he signed a deal with independent music champions Xtra Mile Recordings, and momentum has been growing around the young troubadour ever since with the release of two studio albums ‘Postcards From Ursa Minor (October 2015) and ‘Kingsdown Sundown’ (November 2016) and toured extensively across the UK, Europe and North America opening for supporter and label mate Frank Turner, Scottish heroes The Proclaimers and Billy Bragg.

WILL VARLEY NEW SINGLE 'SEIZE THE NIGHT' OUT 11 MARCH 2016 // WATCH THE VIDEO NOW // UK HEADLINE TOUR

Will Varley kicks off 2016 with the release of new single ‘Seize The Night’ taken from the much-lauded album Postcards From Ursa Minor released back in October 2015. You can buy the album from XMR at our digital shop, from Amazon on physical formats, from our friends at Banquet Records on CD and vinyl or on download from iTunes.

'Seize The Night' is about living life to the full and sharing memories of good times from the past while remembering to savour each moment of the present the best you can. To reinforce these sentiments, labelmate, friend and tour buddy Frank Turner shows up to provide extra vocals on the track. The song has already had radio play on 6Music and Radio X, and it shows yet another side of Will’s multi-faceted writing and multitudinous ways with words.

Check out the video here:

Before the single, Will Varley will be heading out on a headline tour in February; 17 UK dates up and down the country culminating in his biggest headline show to date at London’s Scala on 10 March. Bristol is already sold out and more will follow so booking tickets should be your priority.

XTRA MILE RECORDINGS PRESENT 'SUMMER IN THE CITY' ON 8 JULY 2015 — SKINNY LISTER, WILL VARLEY, PJ BOND, AND THE RPMS // LIVE AT THE MONARCH, CAMDEN

On Wednesday 8 July, Xtra Mile Recordings are celebrating summer and the (hopefully) lovely warm weather by throwing a massive party at our home from home, The Monarch in Camden. Tickets for this fun-packed evening are £7 and available to purchase here

Also, on the same day, we are releasing the sixth installment of our annual label compilation, Xtra Mile High Club. More news on that very, very soon.

Dubbed Summer In The City — both the gig and the compilation — they'll feature acts from our roster as well as unsigned acts that we’re really excited by.

The gig will be a night of unrivaled fun, with bands, beach balls and balmy summer cocktails (and/or beer). Kicking off the night is up and coming Brighton band The RPMs, whose passion for rock 'n' roll and a knack for writing killer hooks makes them a very promising band to keep an eye on. Then, fresh from a rambling tour of mainland Europe and the UK, comes wandering singer-songwriter PJ Bond with touring partner (and XMHC Vol 5 alumnus) The Lion And The Wolf in tow. Next up will be Xtra Mile’s newest signing, Will Varley. Singer, storyteller, poet — he’s supported Frank Turner at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as Beans On Toast and The Proclaimers. Poignant, funny and utterly charming, he’s one to watch for certain.

Headlining the evening’s festivities are the twelve-legged party animal known as Skinny Lister, whose flagon of rum and infectious sing-a-longs will top off the night brilliantly. Their current album Down On Deptford Broadway is full of fantastic anthems about nights out, having a drink, love and living in London, and they’re the perfect headliners for our Summer In The City night.

8 July also sees the release of Xtra Mile High Club Vol 6: Summer In The City — a digital-only compilation that celebrates the breadth of talent across our roster, as well as a selection of unsigned acts that are rocking our boat at the moment. It includes new and recent songs from Frank Turner, Will Varley, Dan Andriano, Northcote, Esmé Patterson, Billy the Kid, Mull Historical Society and many more. The full tracklisting will be announced soon.

Competition — win a pair of tickets to Summer in the City, plus the compilation!

Now you know all about it, why not try to win two tickets to the gig and a free download of the compilation?

Using the hashtag #XMRsummer send us pictures of how you’re making your summer an XMR one, whether it's seeing our bands at festivals (or at gigs) or you’re just dressed in head-to-toe XMR merch while on a bike ride (as you do). However you’re managing to incorporate XMR into your summer fun, we wanna see. The best pictures will win this awesome prize! You and your friend/sibling/parent/cousin/lover/whomever could be partying with us all, and reliving the celebration afterwards with a huge bunch of XMR and unsigned songs with XMHC Vol 6!

Tag your pictures on social media for us to see:  @xtra_mile for Twitter and @xtramilerecordings for Instagram. Our decision is final, and we'll announce the winner at least a week before the show. Good luck!

WILL VARLEY – WATCH THE HOMEMADE VIDEO FOR 'WE DON'T BELIEVE YOU'

As you will know by now, Will Varley will release his new live five-track EP 'Live at the Lighthouse' on 4 May 2015. Oh, and there's that general election thing too. Do what you like with the latter (it's probably too late), but you can preorder (or buy, depending on when you read this) the digital-only EP from our digital-only shop, or from either Google Play or Amazon.

Why are we mentioning the election? Well, Will has taken his lead track from the EP, 'We Don't Believe You', and married it with this caustic homemade video. Watch below.

WILL VARLEY 'LIVE AT THE LIGHTHOUSE EP' OUT 4 MAY 2015 // STREAM LEAD TRACK 'WE DON'T BELIEVE YOU' // UK SPRING TOUR

Xtra Mile Recordings’ newest signing Will Varley unveils details of his forthcoming five-track digital EP, Live At The Lighthouse, which will be released on 4 May 2015.  You can preorder the EP now from the Xtra Mile digital shop, from Amazon or Google Play.

The EP includes new song 'We Don't Believe You', a timely look at the current political climate in Britain - “If we're after Britain First than we should probably be last, and before UK independence we should give back what isn't ours,” - taking on colonial history, globalisation and foreign policy all in the time it takes a pop song to say “I love you”. You can stream the track below.

Taken from the forthcoming digital-only EP 'Live At The Lighthouse' Pre-order here: Amazon - http://smarturl.it/LATL-Amazon Google Play - http://smarturl.it/LATL-GP XMR - http://smarturl.it/LATL-XMR

More live tracks from previous albums feature too, including the much-loved 'Weddings and Wars' (the history of the human race) and 'King for a King' (the story of a life from birth to death). There's hardly time to breathe as Will's viewpoint flows across the timeline of a mere moment, or an entire millennium.

Will signed to Xtra Mile Recordings backstage at the Royal Albert Hall just moments before he performed on stage supporting Frank Turner as part of a Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the end of March. He’s been named one of Time Out's rising stars of 2015 as well as “powerful, political and pertinent” by the Independent.

The 27-year-old rambling folk singer-songwriter from Kent is a self-made man who, on one recent tour, walked 500 miles with a guitar on his back, playing shows along the way. He makes his own music videos. He co-runs his own record label and music festival, Smugglers. As if mirroring his work ethic, his songs pack narrative detail. Each three or four minutes is earthy and punchy, rolling and rollicking upon barely-concealed anger, or blatant piss-taking.

The EP tracklisting is:

  1. Weddings and Wars
  2. From Halcyon
  3. We Don't Believe You
  4. King For A King
  5. I Got This Email
