Vol. 9 features live performances recorded at Frank Turner's Lost Evenings festival from Camden's Roundhouse in May 2017. The festival won the Association of Independent Music (AIM) Golden Welly Award for Best Independent Festival 2017 in September, with fans voting for the winner.

Main stage performances by Skinny Lister and Will Varley were captured from the Xtra Mile evening on 15 May 2017, as well as tracks taken from each of Frank Turner's four headlining slots. Other performing Xtra Mile artists including Ben Marwood, Ducking Punches, Beans on Toast, Christ T-T, Non Canon, Sam Duckworth (aka Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly) and Rob Lynch recorded separate acoustic sessions in the Xtra Mile Outside Broadcasts truck, XMROB1, over the four days.

Selections from this hotbed of live recording make up the tracklisting of XMHC Vol. 9. Celebrating this incredible moment in time, the tracks included are:

  1. Frank Turner – 'Vital Signs' (Live at Lost Evenings night 2)

  2. Sam Duckworth – 'In Good Time' (XMROB1 session)

  3. Chris T-T – 'Love Me, I'm A Liberal' (XMROB1 session)

  4. Frank Turner – 'Redemption' (Live at Lost Evenings night 1)

  5. Beans on Toast – 'Afternoon in the Sunshine' (XMROB1 session)

  6. Will Varley – 'As For My Soul' (Live from the main stage)

  7. Frank Turner – 'Jet Lag' (Live solo acoustic at Lost Evenings night 3)

  8. Skinny Lister – 'Devil In Me' (Live from the main stage)

  9. Non Canon – 'Home Alone 3' (XMROB1 session)

  10. Rob Lynch – 'Tectonic Plates' (XMROB1 session)

  11. Ducking Punches – 'Sobriety' (XMROB1 session)

  12. Ben Marwood – 'Nights' (XMROB1 session)

  13. Frank Turner – 'Journey of the Magi' (Live at Lost Evenings night 4)

Lost Evenings took place on 12–15 May at the Roundhouse in Camden with Frank Turner headlining an evening bill curated by Frank and OneFest, as well as satellite performances in other venues called Last Minutes. The last day of the festival was Radio 1's Huw Stephens' Label of Love for Xtra Mile and featured only Xtra Mile artists including Skinny Lister, Will Varley, Ben Marwood, Ducking Punches and Non Canon. The award-winning festival returns in May 2018. Limited four-day passes for the 2018 edition sold out in 15 minutes.

XTRA MILE RECORDINGS PRESENT 'SUMMER IN THE CITY' ON 8 JULY 2015 — SKINNY LISTER, WILL VARLEY, PJ BOND, AND THE RPMS // LIVE AT THE MONARCH, CAMDEN

On Wednesday 8 July, Xtra Mile Recordings are celebrating summer and the (hopefully) lovely warm weather by throwing a massive party at our home from home, The Monarch in Camden. Tickets for this fun-packed evening are £7 and available to purchase here

Also, on the same day, we are releasing the sixth installment of our annual label compilation, Xtra Mile High Club. More news on that very, very soon.

Dubbed Summer In The City — both the gig and the compilation — they'll feature acts from our roster as well as unsigned acts that we’re really excited by.

The gig will be a night of unrivaled fun, with bands, beach balls and balmy summer cocktails (and/or beer). Kicking off the night is up and coming Brighton band The RPMs, whose passion for rock 'n' roll and a knack for writing killer hooks makes them a very promising band to keep an eye on. Then, fresh from a rambling tour of mainland Europe and the UK, comes wandering singer-songwriter PJ Bond with touring partner (and XMHC Vol 5 alumnus) The Lion And The Wolf in tow. Next up will be Xtra Mile’s newest signing, Will Varley. Singer, storyteller, poet — he’s supported Frank Turner at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as Beans On Toast and The Proclaimers. Poignant, funny and utterly charming, he’s one to watch for certain.

Headlining the evening’s festivities are the twelve-legged party animal known as Skinny Lister, whose flagon of rum and infectious sing-a-longs will top off the night brilliantly. Their current album Down On Deptford Broadway is full of fantastic anthems about nights out, having a drink, love and living in London, and they’re the perfect headliners for our Summer In The City night.

8 July also sees the release of Xtra Mile High Club Vol 6: Summer In The City — a digital-only compilation that celebrates the breadth of talent across our roster, as well as a selection of unsigned acts that are rocking our boat at the moment. It includes new and recent songs from Frank Turner, Will Varley, Dan Andriano, Northcote, Esmé Patterson, Billy the Kid, Mull Historical Society and many more. The full tracklisting will be announced soon.

Competition — win a pair of tickets to Summer in the City, plus the compilation!

Now you know all about it, why not try to win two tickets to the gig and a free download of the compilation?

Using the hashtag #XMRsummer send us pictures of how you’re making your summer an XMR one, whether it's seeing our bands at festivals (or at gigs) or you’re just dressed in head-to-toe XMR merch while on a bike ride (as you do). However you’re managing to incorporate XMR into your summer fun, we wanna see. The best pictures will win this awesome prize! You and your friend/sibling/parent/cousin/lover/whomever could be partying with us all, and reliving the celebration afterwards with a huge bunch of XMR and unsigned songs with XMHC Vol 6!

Tag your pictures on social media for us to see:  @xtra_mile for Twitter and @xtramilerecordings for Instagram. Our decision is final, and we'll announce the winner at least a week before the show. Good luck!

SKINNY LISTER NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO 'WHAT CAN I SAY?' // STREAM 'DOWN ON DEPTFORD BROADWAY' EXCLUSIVELY ON THE GUARDIAN // LIVE IN-SHOP AT RISE AND BANQUET 18 APRIL RECORD STORE DAY WEEKEND

Currently tearing through Europe, rum-soaked folk-punk collective Skinny Lister release new single 'What Can I Say?' on 1 June 2015, with a brand new video. The song is a more restrained, melodic and folk-steeped singalong for Skinny Lister, the light-hearted pre-hangover dawn song you sing to both celebrate and mourn the morning to come.

The video features singer Lorna asking the titular question in various windswept locations, and giving us an answer towards the end. Watch it here:

The track is taken from new album Down on Deptford Broadway which is available to preorder now for 20 April 2015. Get it from our digital shop on CD or download,  vinyl and CD from Banquet Records, on CD  or vinyl from Amazon, or simply download it from iTunes.

You can help your decision to preorder by streaming the entire album a week ahead of release, exclusively on The Guardian's website

The band will be supporting the release of the album with four gigs in two days over Record Store Day weekend, playing the three Rise Stores in Bristol, Cheltenham and Worcester on 18 April, and then Banquet Records in Kingston on 19 April.

They then embark on their huge headline tour of the UK from 22 April. Dates are on our gig calendar, which can also be viewed below.

Never knowingly underworked, Beans on Toast will also play at all three Rise Records locations - Bristol, Cheltenham and Worcester - plus an evening headline show at Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach, all in the space of Record Store Day itself.

The Rise shows will see Beans in slightly more modest surrounds, coming as they do off the back of a support slot on label-mate and good friend Frank Turner’s recent UK arena tour (including London 02 arena). The RSD vinyl release follows the Radio 1 Punk Show-supported recent single ‘Keep You’ (out now), taken from the album 'Giving Everything'  released in December 2013.
