Mastermind: your specialist subject, Frank Turner

Test yourself, then watch Celebrity Mastermind champion Frank do the same

- 14/10/2015 -

Remember that time Frank Turner achieved a lifelong dream and won (Celebrity) Mastermind? The UK gameshow — said to be based on the creator's experiences of being interrogated by the Gestapo in the Second World War — is a long-term favourite of all sensible and smart people. Simply, contestants take on two rounds of questions in the famous black chair: a round on their chosen specialist subject and a general knowledge round.

In the episode broadcast on 3 January 2014, Frank beat actor/ writer Ben Faulks, comedian / actor / radio host Roy Hudd, and performance poet John Cooper Clarke. His specialist subject? Iron Maiden, of course. It was pretty much a top five moment in his life.

In that spirit, and with a whole heap of non-album tracks (77 of them) including rarities, digital and CD EP tracks, covers, live and radio sessions, and alternate versions being jammed on seven vinyl discs for The First Ten Years boxset (which is almost all gone, but may be available to preorder here and here, and possibly other places — check with your local retailer!), we thought that a decade of career would give us enough tough questions to ask the man himself about...erm...the man himself. At the very least he must have forgotten some things, right?

Before we get to the video, perhaps you — the wise and knowledgeable fanbase – might want to have a go at the questions we asked Frank. Try the quiz below, and try not to cheat using that new-fangled Google thing. Once you've tested your FT skillz, look below the quiz to see how Frank does.

And so, here's the video of Frank answering the hardest questions we could think of about him. How do you think he did?
